Frequently asked questions
How much black fondant is needed to cover a three-tier cake?
Allow approximately 1 kg for one tier measuring 20 cm in diameter and 10 cm high. For a three-tier cake (15/20/25 cm), plan on 2 to 3 1 kg blocks depending on the total height and desired rolling thickness (2 to 3 mm).
Does SmartFlex black stain hands and work surfaces during use?
The coloring is stabilized in the fondant; slight transfer may occur on very dry skin or porous work surfaces. Working with thin gloves and a silicone mat limits this effect.
Can this black fondant be mixed with white fondant to create gray?
Yes, add the black gradually in small amounts to white fondant until you reach the desired shade: it is more economical than buying a dedicated gray fondant.
How can cracks on large rolled black surfaces be prevented?
Roll to an even thickness of 3 mm, knead the fondant thoroughly before use to warm it up, and work in a room at 18 to 22 °C.
